The Indian women boxers concluded the World Championships with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals bagged by Manju Rani, Jamuna Boro, Lovlina Borgohain and Mary Kom respectively. Manju Rani entered the final with a 4-1 victory defeating Thailand's Rakshat in the 48 kg category becoming the first women boxer after 18 years to reach the finals of World Boxing Championship on debut after MC Mary Kom in 2001 had reached the finals. 19-year-old Manju lost the gold-medal bout 1-4 against 2nd seed Ekaterina Paltceva of Russia but still managed to finish as the best Indian performer in this edition. On the other hand, Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro and Mary Kom also shone to add to India’s medal tally in the 69kg, 54kg and 51kg respectively.
