Badminton News: PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma qualify for World Tour Finals

India will have only two representatives in the World Tour Finals to be played in Guangzhou in China. Among women singles PV Sindhu has made the cut and she is entering the eight-woman field for the third straight year. The Olympic silver medallist qualified for the Tour Finals at the sixth spot on the women's singles charts. Sindhu did not win any titles on the tour this year but the world number six reached the final of the World Championships, Thailand Open and India Open tournaments and her consistent run on the tour helped her accumulate ranking points. Sameer Verma is going to lead India's challenge in men's singles. India do not have any players in the doubles categories. Sameer headed into Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, 6680 points behind the eighth-placed Kenta Nishimoto and faced a must-win situation at the World Tour Super 300 tournament. The 24-year-old successfully defended his title and clinched 7000 points to leapfrog Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting to qualify at the seventh spot. The likes of Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy and K Sai Praneeth have struggled throughout the season. It has been quite a disappointing 2018 for all the Indian men shuttlers as they failed to win any super series.
