Manu Bhaker finished 12th with 575 points in qualification, while Yashaswini Singh Deswal finished 13th with 574 points. In badminton, Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu makes a winning start in the Tokyo Olympics. The sixth seed beat Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel 21-7 21-10 in women's singles Group J match. Sindhu will now face India's women's tennis pair of Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost their first round match against Ukraine's Liudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok 6-0 6-7 8-10. The Indian tennis duo showcased authority as they won the first set 6-0 but soon lost their rhythm before going down to the Ukrainian twins.
