In their first meeting, the 21st seed from Kazakhstan overpowered the 23-time Grand Slam champion 6-3 7-5 to set up a quarter final tie with doubles partner Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Rybakina is yet to drop a set at this year's Roland Garros, and her appearance in the last eight will be her first-ever at a Grand Slam.
