In the 16th edition of IPL 2023, one of the season's greatest talking topics has been the form of veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane. The Chennai Super Kings signed the 34-year-old at the IPL 2023 auctions for a base fee of INR 50 lakhs.
Although Chennai's decision to give Rahane a chance appears to have successfully paid off. The veteran Indian Batsman has completely changed his gameplay from being a Test Batter to T20 hitter.
With 209 runs in five games and a strike rate of 199.05, he has been one of Chennai's most crucial players. Rahane recently hit his 2nd half-century of the season as the 4-time champions faced KKR in the tournament's 33rd match.
Rahane played an outstanding knock scoring 71* runs in off just 29 deliveries. Following the game, the veteran batter came up to discuss his performance in the competition.
"The only thing I tell you... I really enjoyed my knock, really happy that we won this match. You get a chance to learn many things when you play under Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni). As a batter and cricketer, you always want to grow. The way the format is evolving, I feel as an individual you have to keep growing and developing your skills,"
Rahane said at the post-match press conference.
Furthermore, Ajinkya Rahane poked fun at his previous organisations, claiming that he did not have as many chances in previous IPL seasons. Notably, while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders the previous season, the 34-year-old saw little action for the two-time winners.
"The turning point is here I'm getting chances to play. I was really happy when CSK picked me. They gave me opportunity to play and express myself, If you see, I was not getting opportunities to play one-two years ago. And, if you don't play matches, how would you show what shots do you have in your armoury,"
Rahane concluded.
