South Korea beat Philippines 1-0 in their AFC Asian Cup Group C opener courtesy of Hwang Ui-jo's second-half winner. The Philippines had only 18.2 per cent possession against the 2015 Asian Cup runners-up but managed to hold firm until the 67th minute. South Korea triumphed in the absence of Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min. The in-form Son is still with his club team for one more Premier League match, against Manchester United on Sunday, before joining the national squad at the tournament.
