Football: Shabab Al Ahli beat Al Jazira 1-0 in Arabian Gulf League

A late goal from substitute Ahmad Khalil saw Shabab Al Ahli beat Al Jazira 1-0 in the Arabian Gulf League. Al Jazira couldn't break the deadlock in the first half despite two close chances by Ali Al Mabkhout and Leonardo Pereira. Al Mabkhout's attempt to tap in Abdalla Bekheet's cross hit the post, while Pereira's long-range free-kick was saved by Majed Nasser in Al Ahli's goal. Al Ahli's Mauro Diaz missed the target in the 42nd minute and it was 0-0 at the break. Ghanaian Ernest Asante's chip over Al Jazira goalkeeper Ali Khaseif Housani in the 59th minute failed and Khalil's sensational late goal in the 93rd minute of added time proved to be the difference. Al Jazira remained in second place on 28 points on goal difference, while Shabab Al Ahli are on 28 - as both are three behind leaders Al Sharjah.
