According to reports, Manchester City is considering a summer acquisition of Kieran Tierney, a left-back for Arsenal. After letting Oleksandr Zinchenko join the Gunners earlier in the transfer season, the Premier League winners are still looking for a replacement left-back.
Last Friday's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace marked Zinchenko's debut for Arsenal; Tierney took over for the final seven minutes of the game at Selhurst Park. Tierney had knee surgery in April, which prevented him from playing in the final 10 Premier League games of the previous season, but he still managed to make 25 appearances for Mikel Arteta's team in all competitions in the upcoming season.
The Daily Telegraph claims that Man City may focus their attention on Scotland's Tierney, who has shown himself in the Premier League since joining from Celtic in 2019.
Although it is believed that Tierney won't be leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer. However, if Zinchenko were to claim the left-back position, Tierney's playing time in North London might be constrained.
Meanwhile, City have reached an agreement with Anderlecht on Wednesday to sign the 21-year-old left defender for a sum in excess of €10 million (£8.5 million),
While the Citizens are presently finalising the deal of Gomez, they are yet to complete their hunt for a senior left-back.
Once Gomez passes his medical and agrees to the terms of his personal contract, he will soon be introduced as a new player for City.
The City team views the Spain Under-21 international as a development player who may either be sent out for the 2022-23 season or who could fill in for first-choice left-back Joao Cancelo.
The Citizens are planning to sign Gomez regardless of their search for a senior left-back this summer, and it is believed that they have identified some potential replacements for their top target, Marc Cucurella, who has joined Chelsea.
The Daily Telegraph reports that in addition to Tierney, Atletico Madrid's Renan Lodi is also on their radar. The La Liga heavyweights are allegedly prepared for interest in the Brazilian's services throughout the remaining three and a half weeks of the transfer season.
Raphael Guerreiro, a 28-year-old left defender with just one year left on his contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, is another left back in whom City has indicated interest.
The short list for City also includes Rayan Ait-Nouri of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Borna Sosa of Stuttgart. The former is thought to be worth between €20 million and €25 million, or nearly half of Ait-asking Nouri's price.
Pep Guardiola, the manager, said last month that City will try to find a left-back before the deadline of September 1, but stressed that he is content with the options at his disposal right now.
"If it's possible (to sign a left-back), yes, if it's not we stay,"
Guardiola told reporters.
"Joao [Cancelo] can play there, Josh [Wilson-Esbrand], Nathan [Ake]. I never complain about the squad I have since the first season. What the club can do is the benefit for the club not me. I support the club."
Erling Braut Haaland and Kalvin Phillips arrived from Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United, respectively. Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega joined the club on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld. City has spent just under £100 million so far this summer.
