Football News: Bayern Munich ‘sack Julian Nagelsmann, appoint Thomas Tuchel'

Bayern Munich's head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has reportedly been fired and replaced with Thomas Tuchel.

Nagelsmann recently led Bayern into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-0 aggregate win against PSG. Thus, as a result the German giants have now set up a meeting with Manchester City.

The victory over PSG seems to have relieved any strain on the 35-year-old but he could do much about the subpar domestic display. Unfortunately, Bayern lost 2-1 against Bayer Leverkusen before the international break. Thus, allowing Borussia Dortmund to take a one-point lead in the title race.

Bayern still has a chance to win an 11th consecutive title, with the two arch-rivals set to meet after the international break. But, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, club authorities have sensationally fired Nagelsmann.

Moreover, the Bundesliga champions have also appointed Tuchel's services. The decision comes despite Bayern collecting 52 points from 25 top-flight games and losing only three times,

While Nagelsmann has a win record of 71.4% from 84 games in charge. However, the news has yet to be confirmed, it is believed that Nagelsmann will leave with immediate effect.

Tuchel will now take charge of his first meeting against his former team, knowing that failure would leave Bayern four points behind Dortmund with eight games remaining.

Former PSG boss, who is now 49 years old has been out of job since being fired as Chelsea's head coach in September, despite having won 60 of his 100 games in all competitions.

Tuchel has nearly a decade of experience managing in his homeland, having won the Champions League with Augsburg II, Mainz 05, and Dortmund.

His only piece of trophy in German football is the 2017 DFB-Pokal, but he got great praise for his five-season stint at Mainz, when he finished fifth and seventh in the Bundesliga.

Tuchel will return to German football after a nearly six-year sabbatical, taking a year off after leaving Dortmund before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2018.
