Football News: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur suffer blow in pursuit of Julian Brandt?

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur's hopes of signing Julian Brandt have been dealt a blow. The attacking midfielder is reportedly set to extend his contract to stay at Borussia Dortmund.

According to reports, Dortmund's interim coach Edin Terzic wants to keep the German international. He wants to include the key midfielder in his plans for the team next season.

Brandt has been linked with a move away from Dortmund for quite a while now. The rumours about his departure started after struggling to secure a regular starting spot under former coach Lucien Favre.

The 26-year-old has already scored eight league goals this season and can reach double figures for the first time in his career.

Brandt, who can play as a central attacking midfielder or on the wings, joined Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 for a reported fee of €25 million.

Moreover, the German has received the Bundesliga Player of the Month title for the second month in a row, capping up a productive season for the 26-year-old.

Brandt's efforts have helped Dortmund maintain a title threat in the Bundesliga, and German newspaper BILD reports that sporting director Sebastian Kehl is eager to begin contract negotiations soon.

After suffering an injury in the first few minutes against Chelsea, Brandt's absence saw them depart the Champions League and also saw their eight-game winning streak in the league come to an end against Schalke 04 on Saturday.

According to the source, Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in the player, but Dortmund intends to offer Brandt a new and improved contract for €7 million (£6.1 million) each year.

A transfer to the Premier League is claimed to be tempting to the German international, although he is said to be willing to begin contract talks with his current club.
