Football News: 'His head was turned': CEO admits £90m star wanted to join Arsenal

According to Brighton and Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber, Moises Caicedo wanted to join Arsenal in January. While Caicedo also used social media to try to push through a mid-season trade to the Gunners.

Thus, this might have put doubts over Caicedo's future with the club and his commitment to the club. But, Caicedo has approached repairing those bridges in the ideal manner ever since the window shut.

The Ecuadorian international has continued his stellar play from 2022. He has been playing a major part in contributing to Brighton's continued hopes of making the Champions League.

"Moises, to his absolute credit, has got his head down, worked hard and he is happy around the club again. He is a very good footballer"

Said Brighton's CEO.

"There was never a moment in the window when we felt we needed or wanted to sell Moises,"

Barber adds.

Thus, Arsenal were unsuccessful with their startling £70 million bid in their pursuit of the Brighton midfielder. Caicedo made no secret of his desire to take advantage of such a chance, but Barber said that Brighton were never prepared to concede after adopting a rigid stance.

The Brighton CEO further added saying,

"He is only 20. He needed an arm around the shoulder and a bit of support. We know his head was turned, and we know why."

Since then, Caicedo has committed to an extended contract with the Amex. Arsenal, on the other hand, doesn't seem inclined to rekindle their interest anytime soon. Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham United, is now their top summer target, according to The Guardian.

"(Caicedo's new deal) it's really nice for the club and for him,"

Brighton team-mate and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister told talkSPORT recently.

"I think everyone knows that Moises is really happy here at the club. He is enjoying it. So it's really nice for the club. We are really pleased that he stays here with us."

"I think he is a fantastic player. Physically, defensively, he can play (as a number) six or an eight. He's got versatility. I think he's an amazing player, and I wish him all the best."
