Despite finishing 10 seconds behind the stage winner Simon Pellaud, Fausto Masnada finished safely in the Peloton to hang onto the yellow jery and win the 2018 Tour of Hainan. Simon Pellaud of the Swiss national team brilliantly won the ninth and final stage in Danzhou with a solo move in the last three kilometres and celebrated a well-deserved victory at the end of nine days of racing in China. Afterwards, Masnada acknowledged this as his best season yet, following his third place at the Giro dell'Appennino. The stage stretched 181.9 kilometres from Changjiang to Danzhou and the course suited Pellaud's style. The 25-year-old finished in a time of four hours, ten minutes and 53 seconds, five ahead of Dutchman Peter Schulting who retires after this race.
