Fausto Masnada is the new overall leader at the Tour of Hainan after the Androni rider won the eighth and penultimate stage. The stage stretched 197.2 kilometres between Langmuwan and Changjiang - and the course suited Masnada's style. The Italian mastered the steep climb towards the end and attacked with 600 metres to go, to muscle his way past Switzerland's Gino Mader. Masnada finished with a time of four hours, 55 minutes and two seconds, five seconds ahead of Mader. Frenchman Julien El Fares, riding for Delko Marseille, was a further second back in third place. Raymond Kreder, who retained the yellow jersey after stage seven, finished outside the top ten to concede the overall lead to Masnada.
