Cricket News: Virat Kohli has been my idol: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill of the Gujarat Titans (GT) earned another feather to his cap on Monday, May 15, during the 62nd match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

The teenager hit his first IPL century and helped GT score 188 runs in 20 overs. He hit 101 runs off 58 balls, including 13 boundaries and a maximum.

Gill's heroics carried the GT innings, which had been shattered by SRH veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The young batsman lasted until the final over to help his team establish a suitable goal for the visitors. In response, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma each took four wickets to restrict the Aiden Markram-led side to 154.

After smashing a century, Gill was named Player of the Match and a candidate for the IPL 2023 Orange Cap. After the game, the young hitter told Star Sports that Virat Kohli inspires him and that he has liked him since childhood.

He went on to state that the former India captain's batting, passion, and commitment inspire him.

"When I was 12-13 years old I followed Virat Kohli bhai the most, he has been my idol since I started understanding cricket. I learned a lot from Virat bhai. His batting & passion & commitment motivates me,"

Gill told Star Sports.

In addition to Gill, Sai Sudharsan made an important contribution for the defending champions, scoring a 36-ball 47 with six fours and a six. However, he was dismissed by all-rounder Marco Jansen, ending a 147-run partnership with Gill, and GT's middle and bottom orders rapidly collapsed. Notably, nine of the eleven batters scored in the single digits, with four getting out without scoring.

Gill, on the other hand, led the Titans' charge, achieving his century in 56 balls with a single in the 19th over. Gill, on the other hand, was caught by Abdul Samad off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first delivery of the last over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar concluded his four-over performance with 5/30, removing opener Saha, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Gill.
