The match no. 10 of GPCL's 1st edition sees Irish Olives go one on one against the Sri Lankan Violets. The Lankan's won the toss and opted to bat first.
The decision soon turned out to be against them after the Sri Lankans found themselves in big trouble, losing 2 early wickets in first 3 overs. Thereafter, Durness Mackay took a stunning catch to send Chithaka back to the pavilion. The Violets had the worst powerplay of the season as they scored only 25 runs in first 6 overs and also lost 4 crucial wickets.
Thereafter, the Sri Lankan's were on the verge of smallest 1st inning total, After 10 it was 40 for 7. Sajan was the only one who kept the Lankan's hope alive to reach for a defendable total. But even he could not manage enough runs in his bag.
Thus, Irish Olives were down to chase the lowest total of GPCL's 1st season as the Lankans were bowled out for just 63 runs.
TheIrish Olives were looking to finish it off quickly. However, in doing so they lost two crucial wickets in the initial 3 overs. Meanwhile, the Lankans looking make things difficult for the Irish as after 6 over it was 28 for 3.
The Sri Lankan Violets tried to make the job difficult but the target was to short to give the crowd a competitive fixture. Thus, The Irish were closing on to the first victory of the season with only 16 required in last 10 overs.
Llyod finished off with a 6 as Irish Olives thrashes the Sri Lankans Violets by 5 wickets around 7 overs spare.
The chances for Irish to reach the finals looks slimer but they might believe in fact of noting is impossible.
