Match 7 – GPCL: American Indigos put on a fighting total on a slow track against Scottish Mulberries

Match no. 7 in the first season of GPCL sees a collision between the American Indigos and Scottish Mulberries. American Indigos won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked like a difficult wicket to bat on.

The Indigos were off to a slow start scoring only 10 in the first 3 overs. However, they did manage to increase the scoring rate in the later stage of the powerplay. Meanwhile, Mulberries continued their hunt for a wicket as powerplay ended with 39-0 for the Indigos.

Rampersaud & Homraj had given The Indigos a slow but steady start. After 9 overs The Mulberries were yet to find a wicket as the scorecard read as 63-0.

Ollie took a stunning catch to send the Indigos' skipper Rampersaud back to the Pavilion. Thus, with this Shahid got the first breakthrough for the Scottish Mulberries. While Homraj continued to play his strokes at the other end.
The scoring rate was kept under control even after the Indigoes had only lost 1 wicket until the end of 15th over. Homraj looked all set for power hitting in the last 5 overs. But was unable to fire shorts as Ollie got better off him. Thus, Homraj departed for 65 from 52 balls.
The big Hitter Karan came on the crease but only to slow down the scoring rate. Thus, the Indigos were unable to take the wickets in hand advantage as Scottish Mulberries were successful in restricting the American Indigos to 143.
Chasing a small total, the Mulberries were off to a quick-fire start striking 11 runs in the first over. But it turned out to be the only over were the Scottish side got some joy.
Thereafter, it was all about how the spinner dominated the game. American Indigos struck back-to-back blows as Mulberries lost 2 early wickets for just 20 in the first 3 overs.
Spinners dominated the Mulberries, who are down to 33 for 4 in 8 overs. Mishra puts the Mulberries in trouble picking 5 crucial wickets including skipper Edwards. With this Scottish Mulberries were on the verge of scoring the lowest total in the GCPL season, after 11 overs it was 49 for 8.
The tailenders did play some classy strokes but their efforts were only in vain. As the Mulberries were knocked out for a total of just 84 runs.

Timil and Mishra turned out to be the star bowlers for the American Indigos. Mishra finished of with 5 wicket haul and just gave up 7 runs in his four overs spell. While Timil took 3 for 22.

The man of the match was given to Mishra for his terrific bowling figures (5-7).
