Laslo Djere stunned top seed Dominic Thiem 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Rio Open in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Italy's Fabio Fognini and Marco Cecchinato were also ousted in the first round of the clay-court tournament. Number one-seeded Thiem lost to world number 90 Djere in just under an hour and 20 minutes, and looked far from his best. Second-seeded Fognini was defeated by Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime 6-2, 6-3. Third-seeded Cecchinato, who won the Argentina Open on Sunday, was also eliminated by Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene 7-5, 7-6 (1).
