Veteran Sara Errani warmed the home crowd when she came from behind to beat Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic in three sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Palermo Open on Wednesday. The 33 year-old Errani may be languishing at 169 in the world but she still retains plenty of clay court know-how which enabled her to recover from the loss of the first set to world number 69 Pliskova. Errani, the runner-up at the French Open eight years ago, came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and one minute and now faces up-and-coming Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro in the last eight.
