Football: Japan through to knockout phase with a 1-0 win over Oman in Group F

Japan reached the last 16 of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup after a 1-0 victory over Oman in their Group F match in Abu Dhabi. The Japanese could have taken the lead early in the first half but neither Genki Haraguchi nor Takumi Minamino could find the target. Haraguchi earned a penalty in the 26th minute - the Hannover 96 midfielder calmly converted from the spot to give the four-time winners the lead. Salaah Al-Yahyaei's fierce drive hit the arm of defender Yuto Nagatomo minutes before the break - no penalty was awarded, however. There were few chances for both sides in the second half - although Raed Saleh's acrobatic attempt fell just wide of Shuichi Gonda.
