Henrik Stenson has been selected by European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington as his fifth and final vice-captain for the 2021 event at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, USA, which starts on 24th September. The 45 year-old Swede has played in five Ryder Cups, including the last three, but will have a different role this time. It will be Stenson's first stint as a vice-captain and he joins compatriot Robert Karlsson, Luke Donald of England, Germany's Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland as assistants to Harrington. Stenson's improved form toward the end of the qualifying period wasn't quite enough to convince Harrington to call up the former Open champion as one of the three captain's picks on Sunday. Harrington made the call a day later to Stenson about being an assistant. "It was not a long conversation," Stenson said. "I accepted straight away. It's a great honour to be getting that call and to be involved with the team." The European team won the last Ryder Cup at Le Golf National outside Paris in 2018 and have won four out of the last five editions.
