Wellington Phoenix beat Central Coast Mariners 2-1 to rose to fourth place in the A-League standings. Gary Hooper's goal in the 13th minute gave Ufuk Talay's side the lead before another Englishman - David Ball - doubled the hosts' advantage just before the half-hour mark. Luke DeVere's own goal in first-half stoppage time brought Central Coast back into the match, but both sides missed some good opportunities in the second half and Wellington held on to win.
