Football News: Manchester United failed to sign the Premier League midfielder with £100m offer

Declan Rice, a midfielder for West Ham United, reportedly turned down Manchester United's £100 million bid last summer. After established himself as a star player for both club and country, Rice became one of the hottest properties across Europe.

The 24-year-old England international has been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe's elite teams over the past several seasons. Rice has already made 222 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 12 assists.

He has also made 39 appearances for England, including 12 in two major championships. Rice said that he is prepared to participate in Europe's premier club competition and strive "for huge trophies, "but he has not yet put himself to the test in the Champions League and thus its possible he might make a switch soon.

"One hundred per cent I want to play in the Champions League,"

Rice told reporters at the end of last year.

"For the last two or three years I've been saying that. I've been playing consistently well for my club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing."

Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the West Ham midfielder along side Man United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and most lately Arsenal and Newcastle United.

In fact, Rice was reportedly one of the Red Devils' top targets as they looked to improve their midfield options ahead of the 2022-23 season.

However, Casemiro, the Brazil international who joined from Real Madrid for about £70 million and has established himself as a vital player at Old Trafford, was eventually acquired by Erik ten Hag's team.

Jim White, a talkSPORT commentator, claims that West Ham turned down a £100 million offer from United for Rice during the summer transfer window.

David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, has stated on multiple occasions that they have no interest in moving the midfielder; nevertheless, according to White, they may consider offers around £120 million plus add-ons.

When West Ham and Champions League contender Newcastle drew 1-1 away last weekend, Rice stood out for the Hammers, and Moyes said after the game that Rice would break the British transfer record if he ever left the London Stadium.

"Undoubtedly Declan is going to be a top player and undoubtedly he'll be a British transfer record and more whenever he leaves West Ham,"

Moyes told reporters.

Asked whether an exit for Rice is inevitable, Moyes added:

"I hope it's not, I hope he sees his time here, but look, there's a lot of talk about it and when you see what's going about for the prices."

"I think Declan will be blowing that [British transfer record] out of the water, that's for sure, when it comes around."

Chelsea won the race to recruit Enzo Fernandez from Benfica on deadline day, setting the new record for the most money spent on a British transfer at £106.8 million.

Rice has been with West Ham since 2014, when he transferred from Chelsea to the club's academy. He has a contract with the London club that runs through the summer of 2024.
