Football News: Manchester City 'to hand Rico Lewis 400% pay rise in new deal'

Rico Lewis, a young player for Manchester City, is apparently eligible for a massive 400% wage raise. If he decides to stay with the Premier League champions in the near future the youngster will get the bumper deal.

The 18-year-old academy graduate is having a breakthrough season with the Citizens' first squad after earning Pep Guardiola's trust this year. During the 2022-23 season, Lewis made 15 appearances across all competitions and started five of his team's final seven Premier League games.

At this young age he has already registered one goal and one assist to his name for the senior team of the Citizens. Since Joao Cancelo unexpectedly left on loan for Bayern Munich in January, Lewis has had more opportunity to start than Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo had in recent weeks due to their emergence.

The 18-year-old's current deal with Man City only lasts through the conclusion of the following campaign, but the Etihad giants are prioritising new terms for the breakout teenager.

According to the article, Lewis now makes a modest £5,000 per week at the Etihad, but as part of the long-term pact, his pay will increase to $25,000 per week.

There is nothing to suggest that the adolescent won't sign a contract in the upcoming months committing his future to the club for a period of five years, until 2028.

Lewis, who joined Man City's youth divisions in 2013, is getting up to his tenth anniversary as a member of the team. On Sunday, he played against Tottenham Hotspur for the full ninety minutes of a Premier League match.

Lewis, who has already earned three caps for England's Under-19 team, played the 1-0 loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as an inverted left-back.

There have been rumours that Lewis might be in line for a call-up to the senior team before the start of England's Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in March if he continues to grab Gareth Southgate's attention.

Guardiola reportedly thinks the Englishman can effectively cover Cancelo's position after the Portuguese player's loan to Bayern, which carries a €70 million (£62.7 million) permanent option.

Before moving to the Allianz Arena last month, Cancelo was an unutilized substitute in victories over Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In his first two games there, he has already contributed two assists.

Hasan Salihamidzic, the sporting director for Bayern, has acknowledged that it will be "tough" for his team to retain Cancelo after the season.
