Football News : Kylian Mbappe breaks PSG Champions League goal scoring record

Thanks to his first-half goal in Paris Saint-Group Germain's H match against Benfica yesterday night, Kylian Mbappe has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo as the club's all-time highest scorer in the Champions League.

Six minutes before halftime, after Juan Bernat had been fouled inside the penalty area, the France international calmly stroked home a penalty, sending the goalie the wrong way from the spot.

Mbappe scored goal number 31 in the Champions League for PSG, giving his team the lead at Parc des Princes, and he now stands alone in the club's all-time standings.

Mbappe now owns the record for most European goals scored for PSG, having previously tied Edinson Cavani with 30. The goal comes on a day when speculation about Mbappe's future in the French capital has increased due to claims that he regrets signing a new contract with the team and intends to depart in January.

The club's sporting director, Luis Campos, then refuted those allegations, calling the rumours "false news." With a win versus Benfica tonight, PSG would advance to the round of 16 of the Champions League after Juventus was defeated by Maccabi Haifa in the group's other matchup earlier on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, there are rumours prevailing in the transfer market about the Frenchman's exit from Paris. According to Marca, PSG are willing to let go their star striker to England to their long-term admirers Liverpool.

However, this might not be possible as the Reds have never tried hiring services of such a prolific player whose wages are sky-high. Thus, Mbappe moving to Anfield is as rare as Rangers winning the Champions League this season.

Now, Mbappe will be looking forward to PSG's next match in which they face their arch-rivals Marseille.
