Tennis : Tsonga downs de Minaur to reach Brisbane International semi-finals

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga overcame crowd favourite Alex de Minaur in straight sets on Friday to set up a Brisbane International semi-final meeting with Daniil Medvedev. It was, however, a far from straightforward win for the Frenchman, who has slipped down to 239 in the world rankings following a knee injury. De Minaur's serve was broken in the opening game of the match, but the seventh seed levelled in the fourth game. Tsonga went on to convert a third break point in the 11th game to lead 6-5 though and then served out the set with a love game.No breaks followed in the second set and after de Minaur claimed a mini-break for a 2-1 lead in the ensuing tiebreaker, Tsonga reeled off the next five points to wrap up a 6-4, 7-6(2) victory.
