Ishant Sharma, a veteran pacer, believes that teenager Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready to start for India in English and Australian conditions.
Notably, the 21-year-old was outstanding in his Test debut against the West Indies and is regarded as a potential who can help Indian cricket in the coming decade.
Notably, the cricketer from Uttar Pradesh has amassed 1845 runs in 15 first-class matches and has also proven his value in the Indian Premier League.
As a result, Jaiswal was given the opportunity to make his debut on the Caribbean coasts, and he delivered by hitting a magnificent tonne.
Meanwhile, when asked about Jaiswals performance in the first Test, Ishant claimed that he was able to hit cut and pull strokes with ease against the new ball, which is a good sign.
He further stated that the cricketer avoided playing cover drives due to the risk of being caught behind or in the slips.
"According to me, he is absolutely ready [ to play in England and Australia] because if you see this innings as well, all the boundaries he hit, especially against the new ball, they all came with cut or pull shots,"
Ishant mentioned while discussing on JioCinema.
"It is a great sign for an opening batter when he refrains from playing a cover drive to a full delivery. If you play the cover drive, there is a chance of you getting caught behind or in the slips. He looked to score runs only with cuts and pulls against the new ball, which is every batter's strength. Whenever the ball was pitched up, apart from an odd loose shot, he either defended it or played with the full face of the bat. This becomes very important for an opener,"
he added.
India has taken control of the first Test with to Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma's outstanding century. Notably, the captain scored his 10th Test century but was unable to convert it into anything more. However, Jaiswal has that opportunity, since the southpaw was undefeated at stumps.
Shubman Gill, batting at No. 3, lost his wicket very cheaply, but Virat Kohli is looking excellent again, as the 34-year-old took his time settling down and finished the day unbeaten at 36. His connection with Jaiswal will be essential on Day 3 and may very well determine the outcome of the match.
