Star India wrestler Bajrang Punia, who is currently training in Michigan, has now got a month’s extension which means that Punia will continue training in the US for another month ahead of the preparations for the Rome ranking series event in March. The additional one-month training will cost Rs.11.65 Lakhs and will be borne by the SAI. The decision over Bajrang Punia’s training extension was taken at the Mission Olympic Cell meeting that took place last week. Bajrang is one of the four Indian wrestlers to have booked an Olympic quota so far by winning a bronze at the World Championships in Nur Sultan in 2019. When Punia was asked about how his training is going in the US, he said that the kind of facilities that he is getting is exactly what a wrestler needs in his training ahead of crucial competitions like Asian Championships and Olympics. He added that the quality of sparring partners is very good.
