Tokyo Olympics will be held without spectators and fans at venues in and around the capital after a rise in coronavirus cases in Japan. Tokyo will be under a virus state of emergency throughout the Olympic Games. According to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, the emergency will run from 12th of July and remain in place until 22nd of August. Japan has seen a comparatively small virus outbreak and avoided tough lockdowns, but it also moved slowly to start vaccinations, and only about 15 percent of its population is fully vaccinated so far. Venues in Tokyo and other areas near the capital city will not be allowed to hold events with fans during the Games.
