Thomas Bach, IOC President met with Yoshihide Suga, Japanese Prime Minister on Wednesday, to assure the safety of the Tokyo 2020 Games. The meeting came on the same day that Tokyo reported its highest new COVID-19 cases (1,149) in almost six months, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government said. Suga and Bach have both pledged that the Tokyo Olympics will be "safe and secure" despite the Games opening with Tokyo and neighboring prefectures under a national-government imposed State of Emergency. Wednesday's case load was the highest since 1,184 were reported almost six months ago on Jan. 22. It also marked the 25th straight day that cases were higher than they were a week earlier.
