As Japan marked the one-month-to-go milestone for the July 23th Opening Ceremonies of the Tokyo Summer Olympics on Wednesday, hundreds of demonstrators marched through the center of the Japanese capital to call for the cancellation of the Olympics and Paralympics. Some voiced concerns for the increase of the infection cases during the Games, questioning why Japanese people had to be exposed to the health risks. Support for going ahead in recent polls seems to be increasing, but the majority of Japanese people are still skeptical if Japan can successfully hold a so-called 'safe and secure' Olympics amid the pandemic. About 7 percent of Japanese are fully vaccinated as of Wednesday and more than 14,000 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 which is good by global standards but worse than many Asian neighbors
