Daniil Medvedev beats Novak Djokovic's 6-4 6-4 6-4 in the US Open 2021 final at New York to deny world no.1 a record-breaking 21st grand slam men's singles title and also prevent the first calendar-year Grand Slam since 1969 and keep Djokovic level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal atop the career Slam title list. World number one Djokovic had already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon titles this year. The Russian world no.2 lost his two previous Grand Slam finals but was composed throughout his straight sets win.Daniil Medvedev not only won his first grand slam but also denied Novak Djokovic a piece of history to become the first men's singles player to win a calendar slam as well as his 21st grand slam to go past Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The Serb will have to wait for his 21st grand slam at least till Australian Open 2022 which is his favourite slam.
