The Athletics Federation of India has not renewed the contact of national chief javelin coach Uwe Hohn, citing that they are "not happy" with his performance and will hire two new foreign coaches soon. The contract of the former world record holder Uwe Hohn was valid until the end of the Tokyo Olympics. The 59 year old is the only athlete to throw over 100 metres. Uwe Hohns was Neeraj Chopra’s coach when he won gold medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018, and remained in charge as the national javelin coach for the Tokyo Olympics and trained javelin throwers Shivpal Singh and Annu Rani who failed to make it to the finals of Tokyo Olympics. However, Klaus Bartonietz, the biomechanical expert who coached Chopra when he won the Olympic gold, is set to continue. According to the javelin throwers including Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Shivpal Singh and Annu Rani didn’t want to train under Uwe Hohn. Just before the Olympics Uwe Hohn had criticized Sports Authority of India and AFI over their preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.
