Jon Rahm claimed the world number one ranking for the first time in his career after winning The Memorial Tournament with a nine-under total despite a a two-shot penalty in a three-over 75 final round. Despite an impressive chip-in at the 16th, he was adjudged to have moved the ball while addressing it. Ryan Palmer's final round was a shot better than Rahm, but a six-under total saw him finish second. Third place was claimed by Matthew Fitzpatrick, whose day-high 68 consisted of five birdies and a bogey.
