Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6million in the summer of 2018. His first season at Chelsea was filled with conundrums. In the 2019 League Cup final, Maurizio Sarri decided to substitute Kepa with Willy Caballero. But the Spanish goalkeeper, who was too good at Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, refused to lose his place and created a lot of drama on the pitch. Manchester City stayed calm and defeated the Blues 4-3 on penalties. Sarri, after winning the Europa League and finishing third in the 2018-19 Premier League season, joined Juventus in the summer of 2019. The Blues filled the boots of the Italian head coach with Frank Lampard, who had a fantastic 2018-19 season in the Championship with Derby County. Lampard backed Kepa initially but after seeing him doing too many mistakes, Chelsea’s management benched the 25-year-old in the month of January and February. Arrizabalaga’s current deal with Chelsea will be over in the summer of 2025. Chelsea’s Kepa has kept 20 clean sheets, made 124 saves and conceded 71 goals in 61 Premier League appearances.
