Saudi Arabia had early chances to score their first goal in the competition, as both Li Ruofan and Guo Tianyu had their opportunities wasted in the opening 22 minutes. They almost took the lead a little later, but Khalid Al-Ghannam had his tight angle shot saved by Peng Peng. China were lacking clinical finishes in front of the goal, Xu Lei found the target in close range just before the break but couldn't manage to convert it. Saudi Arabia finally broke the deadlock with nine minutes to go through Abdulmohsen Al-Qahtani - the substitute's powerful effort squeezed under Peng to find its way into the net. Xu Haoyang had China's final chance to equalise but he saw his shot go way over the bar with just four minutes remaining. It finished 1-0 as Saudi Arabia sealed the progression to the quarter-finals with six points after two matches.
