Real Madrid is rumoured to be interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe later this month.
Mbappe's future has been a major topic of discussion during the summer transfer season, thanks to his decision to publicly inform club authorities that he intends to leave Parc des Princes in 2024.
PSG, who do not want to lose their most coveted asset on a free transfer, instantly denied this, and attempted and failed to cash in on the France international.
Mbappe was just reintegrated into the first-team squad after being excluded from Luis Enrique's group, and he made his return at the weekend.
The 24-year-old came off the bench to score a penalty against Toulouse, but PSG conceded a late equalise to draw their second consecutive Ligue 1 match.
As of now, an agreement looks to be in place for Mbappe to spend the season with PSG, with the possibility of contract changes.
However, according to BILD, Real intends to make an offer to PSG in the last days of the summer transfer season in order to push their hand.
Despite their strong start to the season, Los Blancos executives are reportedly willing to present a £103 million bid in order to win Mbappe's contract.
Carlo Ancelotti's front two of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo has enabled Real Madrid win both of their opening La Liga games, despite the fact that Jude Bellingham has taken centre stage.
Nonetheless, Joselu, on loan from Espanyol, is now the only experienced backup in the forward area at the Bernabeu, and it is possible that the position may be strengthened before September 1.
From PSG's perspective, rumours indicate that they expected Real to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in 2024, a perception that influenced their decision to sell earlier this summer.
If Real bid £103 million for Mbappe, it would be far less than PSG's valuation, but as with Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur, it could be PSG's last chance to reclaim a cost.
To change that scenario, Mbappe would need to extend his contract at a club where he is the all-time leading goalscorer and the only remaining member of PSG's high-profile front three, with Neymar and Lionel Messi having previously moved on.
