Football News: Mason Mount 'could be out for six weeks with hamstring injury

Mason Mount, the Manchester United midfielder, is expected to be out for six weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Mount had previously been declared out for three weeks following an injury suffered in Saturday's loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

While preliminary testing suggested that Mount would miss games against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, it was expected that he would return following the international break.

However, the Daily Mail reports that Mount's hamstring injury may be worse than originally thought.

As a result, the Red Devils are concerned that the England international will be out for six weeks.

Mount is now likely to miss Manchester United's home Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on September 16.

The Englishman might also miss the club's first Champions League group game, which is scheduled for the week beginning September 18.

The injury setback will be frustrating for the 24-year-old, who missed the conclusion of Chelsea's 2022-23 season due to a pelvic ailment.

Mount recovered from surgery in time to participate in Man United's complete pre-season routine following his £65 million signing from Chelsea.

Erik ten Hag has started Mount in the club's first two Premier League games, a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Mount's absence may hasten Manchester United's search for a new midfielder, while it may also have an impact on Scott Mc Tominay's future.

The Scotland international has been linked with a move away before the transfer market closes on September 1, but he could stay at the club to give midfield backup.

The Red Devils return to action on Saturday when they host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
The but obvious alternative on the bench available for Erik Ten Hag is Christian Eriksen, who is now set to start his first game of this season on Saturday.
