Manchester United have confirmed that Luke Shaw will be sidelined for several weeks due to a muscular problem.
Given his fitness, the 28-year-old has played 90 minutes in each of United's first two Premier League games and is the club's first-choice left-back.
Shaw was unable to lead the Red Devils earn a historic win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, as Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur defeated Erik ten Hag's side 2-0.
The defender joined United from Southampton in June 2014 and has played 262 times for the Old Trafford club, scoring four goals in that time.
"Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury which will rule him out of forthcoming games,"
read a statement published to the club's official website.
"The muscle issue is still being assessed but the England left-back is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks."
Shaw will be out for a while due to a muscular injury suffered this week as United prepared for their next league fixture.
Man United are currently analysing the exact nature of the injury, but they reportedly believe the left-back will be out for at least a couple of weeks.
Shaw's injury is also expected to keep him out of England's international camp in September, ruling him out of games against Ukraine and Scotland.
Ten Hag now has a selection problem at left-back ahead of this weekend's game, with Tyrell Malacia also missing, leaving Man United without a recognised alternative in that position.
Brandon Williams could have played, but he signed a season-long loan contract with Championship club Ipswich Town earlier this week.
Man United also have injury problems elsewhere on the field, with new signing Mason Mount out until after the international break, which means he will miss his team's next two games.
Rasmus Hojlund has yet to make his Manchester United debut after coming from Atalanta BC in the summer transfer window, but the Dane might recover from a back injury to face Nottingham Forest this weekend at Old Trafford.
Diogo Dalot might play in at left-back for Steve Cooper's Tricky Trees' journey to Manchester, with the Portuguese currently kept out of the starting lineup at right-back by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
