Football News : Manchester United makes a bid to re-sign Memphis Depay?

According to reports, Manchester United has made a formal offer to Barcelona in an effort to re-sign Memphis Depay. Since Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha arrived at Camp Nou in the summer to expand Xavi's offensive options, the Netherlands international has been compelled to play a supporting role.

Depay left Lyon on a free transfer in 2021, but he now has the option to leave La Blaugrana for nothing at the end of the current campaign after agreeing to a two-year contract at Camp Nou. If no new contract is signed in January, Depay will be entitled to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with international teams, and he is anticipated to get many offers.

The Manchester Evening News quotes journalist Adrian Sanchez assaying that the Red Devils have submitted their initial offer to re-sign the Dutch international. Depay became one of Europe's best young attacking stars while playing for PSV Eindhoven, earning a summer 2015 €34 million (£29.8 million) transfer to Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old played 53 times for Man United across all competitions, contributing seven goals and six assists, but he was unable to establish himself in the Premier League.

After Jose Mourinho was hired, Depay left the club in January 2017 for Lyon, where he enjoyed much better success, scoring 76 goals and dishing out 55 assists in 178 games.

Sanchez asserts that Man United are now interested in bringing Depay back to Manchester despite the attacker's initial problems at Old Trafford. Depay is eager to terminate his disastrous time at Barcelona.

Although Barcelona could try to reclaim a little amount for the Netherlands international in January, the article adds that the Red Devils would be able to get Depay on a free transfer next year.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who might have played his final match for Erik ten Hag's team, is anticipated to be replaced by a new attacker for Man United.

Depay has 14 goals and two assists in 41 games while wearing a Barcelona jersey, but he has only made a meagre three appearances for the La Liga heavy weights thus far in 2022-23.

The attacker opened the scoring for his team against Elche on September 17, but he hasn't played since because of a thigh injury he picked up during the international break.

Depay has missed 12 of Barcelona's most recent games across all competitions, and there were rumours that the Dutchman was purposely holding off on his rehabilitation so he could be in top physical shape for the World Cup.

The former Lyon and Manchester United player vehemently refuted those rumours, but Louis Van Gaal, the manager of the Netherlands, has already stated that Depay would not be considered for starting against Senegal in their World Cup opening.

In Group A, the Netherlands will also play Qatar and Ecuador, and on November 21, they will begin their quest for victory against Senegal at the Al Thumama Stadium.
