Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, is apparently a target for Manchester United once again when the transfer window opens in January. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a summer transfer to Old Trafford and is reportedly a long-time favourite of the Red Devils.
In 32 appearances for Napoli last season in all competitions, Osimhen had a standout season in front of goal, scoring 18 goals and dishing out six assists. According to a story from last month, United was considering trading Osimhen and Cristiano Ronaldo to Napoli, but this idea did not materialise.
Since Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford is still up in the air, the Manchester Evening News reports that Man United may rekindle their interest in the Nigerian international during the winter transfer window.
Osimhen claimed last month that he had no plans to quit the Serie A club anytime soon despite having three years left on his deal with Naples. the striker told Corriere dello Sport:
"I'm in Napoli. And I have great respect for my club,"
"They are just rumours of the market. I'm fine here and I've never had such close relationships with everyone as at this moment."
"I spoke to the president, he is the one who decides, and he reassured me by explaining the club's plans. I am happy with what he told me and the purchases are of quality: words were followed by deeds. I am very happy to play with Napoli and we will see in the future."
When Osimhen moved from Lille to Napoli in a transaction estimated to be worth £70 million in July 2020, he set a record for the most expensive African footballer in history.
The Nigerian's current market value is believed to be about £100 million, which may put off prospective bidders like United, who would purportedly give Erik ten Hag £70 million to spend on reinforcements in January.
Osimhen is not the only striker who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford; according to one rumour, the Red Devils are considering making a winter window move for Goncalo Ramos of Benfica.
The 21-year-old, who has eight goals and five assists in 12 games for the Portuguese powerhouses so far this season, is thought to be worth approximately £25 million to United, who may have to compete with teams like Southampton and Paris Saint-Germain for his services.
Additionally, it's believed that Ten Hag is still interested in signing Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, who disclosed last month that the Dutch manager had contacted him on a potential reunion at Old Trafford.
