Football News: Manchester City submits fresh bid for Wolves’ Matheus Nunes

Manchester City are said to have increased their bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.

With Kevin De Bruyne out with a hamstring injury, the Citizens are looking to add to their midfield alternatives in the coming days.

The Premier League winners have identified Nunes as a major target and are attempting to sign him before the transfer deadline on Friday.

The Citizens made an initial £47 million bid for the Portugal international, which Wolves quickly rejected.

Wolves manager Gary O'Neill has confirmed that the club received an offer from an unknown team, but the proposal fell short of Wolves' valuation.

Despite the fact that their initial bid was rejected, Man City has not given up on their chase and has returned with a new offer.

According to writer Fabrizio Romano, Man City have increased their bid for Nunes to roughly €60 million (£51.4 million) including add-ons.

As per the update, the European champions are hoping that their new offer will be sufficient to close the sale.

If Wolves accept the bid, it will be a club record sale, exceeding the £47m they obtained with the sale of Ruben Neves to Al-Hilal earlier this summer.

Wolves have Nunes under contract until the summer of 2027, with an option for an additional year, putting the club in a strong negotiation position.

While they are under no obligation to sell, they may be inclined to sanction a departure due to continued concerns about Financial Fair Play.

The 25-year-old has already finalised personal terms with Man City and appears eager to transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

Nunes, who joined Wolves last summer from Sporting Lisbon, has one goal and one assist in 41 games for the Midlands club.
The Portuguese midfielder started the club's first two games of the new season, but he was suspended for Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton after being sent off in the previous game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
