Football News : Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente?

According to reports, Liverpool's pursuit of Atletico Madrid's versatile midfielder Marcos Llorente has gained momentum. Last season, the 27-year-old was a first-team regular under Diego Simeone, appearing 40 times in all competitions at either right-back or center-midfield.

Llorente has subsequently made nine appearances across all competitions this season, but the Spain international hasn't played since early October due to a calf injury, and he now faces a race against time to be ready for the 2022 World Cup.

Simeone's team has been without the midfielder recently, especially in the Champions League, when Atletico finished last in Group B and ultimately lost to the rest of Europe.

After failing to advance through the Champions League group stage, Fichajes, via Sport Witness, claims that Atletico could be forced to sell some of its key players in the New Year in order to balance their books.

Llorente, who joined Atletico from rival Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for about £35 million and has just under five years left on his deal, has since made 130 appearances in all competitions and has scored 19 goals and provided 20 assists.

In the second leg of Atletico's Champions League round of 16 match against Liverpool at Anfield in the 2019-20 season, the 17-cap Spain international scored twice and contributed an assist.

Llorente is one of the most recent players to have been connected with a potential move to Anfield, and it is widely anticipated that Liverpool will improve their midfield options within the upcoming two transfer windows.

According to a recent report, the Reds are willing to sell Nat Phillips, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita in order to generate money for the January transfer window.

When the transfer window reopens, Liverpool is anticipated to be in the running for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and England, who is believed to be one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe.

The 19-year-old is apparently being sought after by Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Dortmund for a cost of £130 million.

Additionally, it has been reported that Liverpool is interested in players like Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich, Konrad Laimer of RB Leipzig, and Moises Caicedo of Brighton & Hove Albion.
