Erling Braut Haaland, a striker for Manchester City, was chosen as the Premier League Player of the Month for Augustas a result of his explosive start at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City
The 22-year-old, who joined from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, broke Micky Quinn and Sergio Aguero's previous record of eight goals by becoming the first player in the history of the division to score nine goals in his first five games.
On the opening weekend of the new season, Haaland assisted Cityin a 2-0 victory away at West Ham United thanks to a brace he scored on his Premier League debut.
The Norwegian international struggled to find the back of the net against Bournemouth, but he did contribute an assist to the Cherries' 4-0 triumph before scoring the equaliser in a 3-3 draw away at Newcastle United.
Haaland won the match ball in victories over Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, becoming just the sixth player in Premier League history to score back-to-back hat-tricks. Haaland has been recognised for his strong start in the English Premier League, making him the first player since Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United in February 2020 to win the honour in his first month in the competition.
The 6ft 5in striker defeated Pascal Gross of Brighton & Hove Albion, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard of Arsenal, Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham, Nick Pope of Newcastle United, Rodrigo of Leeds United, and Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace to win the prize.
"I am delighted to win this award for the first time. it was an incredible start of the season for the team and I am grateful to everyone who voted."
Speaking to mancity.com after receiving his award, Haaland said:
"We all wanted to hit the ground running this season, so winning four games out of five was a great start for us in what is the most challenging competition in the world. I am happy to have played my part by scoring goals.
"What's important is the result and to help the team. Hopefully, I can continue to support the team, make our fans happy with our performances and carry on our strong start to the season."
With a goal in the away 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, Haaland extended his scoring streak in September and brought his season total in the Premier League to 10 goals in just six games.
The Norwegian has performed admirably in the Champions League this season, scoring twice in City's 4-0 triumph over Sevilla and the game-winning goal in Wednesday's 2-1 comeback victory over his former team, Borussia Dortmund.
Haaland currently has the best strike rate of any player in the top five leagues in Europe (1.86 goals per game), and should he maintain this pace and playing time while also making every club final, City's No. 9 would be on track to end the season with an incredible 102 goals in all competitions.
If Haaland scores in City's next encounter at Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, he will become the first Premier League player to score in each of his first four away games.
