Eden Hazard has acknowledged that his playing time at Real Madrid isn't entirely to his satisfaction. Since making the expensive move from Chelsea to the Bernabeu in 2019,
Hazard has struggled to string together a run of reliable performances, which hasn't been helped by a string of ailments. The Belgian international has played in just 29 starts and 22 substitutions in La Liga overall.
In addition, he has started 12 games and replaced seven others in other tournaments. The 31-year-old has only been able to make two starts and two substitute appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's team during the current campaign.
There have been 159 total minutes played, with Hazard scoring the only goal in the Champions League triumph against Celtic, 3-0.But on Thursday night in the UEFA Nations League, Hazard played 65 minutes for his country as Belgium defeated Wales 2-1.
The playmaker had not been on the field for as long in a single game since June, and Hazard acknowledges that he is dissatisfied with his current playing time.
Speaking to reporters, as quoted by Marca, Hazard said:
"There have been difficult times because I want to play and I don't play. I feel good at Real Madrid, I just play less. And when I play, I play well. It's a delicate situation because I want to play more."
Later, Hazard was questioned about his performance for Belgium, who needed to win to keep their chances of making it to the championship Finals the following year alive.
He added:
"I know what I can do when I play. I want to scratch the maximum number of minutes and get to the World Cup in shape."
Before Spanish football breaks for the World Cup on November 8, Los Blancos are scheduled to play 11 games in La Liga and the Champions League.
At the conclusion of 2023-2024, Hazard's contract at the Bernabeu is set to expire.
