Cycling: Tour de France goes virtual for 2020 edition

Egan Bernal and Chris Froome were just two of the star attractions named in the field for the first Virtual Tour de France on Monday. The event will see 23 men's and 16 professional women's teams competing in six hour-long stages across the first three weekends of July via the Zwift online racing platform. The 2019 Tour de France champion Bernal and four-time winner Chris Froome will be joined by the likes of their INEOS team-mate - and fellow Tour de France winner - Geraint Thomas, Romain Bardet and Nairo Quintana in the men's race. The line-up for the women's race will include 2019 La Course by Le Tour de France winner Marianne Vos, Olympic champion Anna van der Breggen and world time trial champion Chloe Dygert Owen. As well as the professional racers, amateur cyclists will also have an opportunity to ride the Virtual Tour de France route from the comfort of their own homes.
