Colombian Egan Bernal led a Team Ineos one-two at the Gran Piemonte on Thursday for his first one-day race victory and first in Italy. He and team-mate Ivan Sosa set a relentless pace on the climb five kilometres from home, then with two kilometres left Sosa upped the tempo again to shake off their remaining followers, allowing Bernal to launch his assault 1,800 metres from the finish. Bernal's solo break saw him cross the finish line unchallenged, six seconds ahead of Sosa in second; Nans Peters of Ag2r La Mondiale was third.
