Cricket News : Tim David gets a call from Australia for the T20 World Cup

Tim David has been added to Australia's squad for their defence of the T20 World Cup championship next month, which might signal a major change for the game. David will also go on a three-match T20I tour to India in the middle of September, which will help him prepare for the competition and provide him his first chance to play for Australia.

David, a middle-order batsman from Singapore who has established a reputation in T20 tournaments all around the world, including the BBL, joins the Australia team outside of the national or state contract structure.

He now only has a contract with Hobart Hurricanes in the Australian league, but he has also played 14 T20 Internationals for Singapore. George Bailey said,

"He is a highly gifted, natural ball-striker who will add extra batting depth to the group which has had a lot of success in T20 cricket,"

The National selector further added saying:"

"We expect him to play a similar role to that he has been playing in the past few years."

David furthered established himself as one of the top finishers in the world by finishing the PSL with 278 runs at 39.71.and a staggering strike-rate of 194.40. He received an AU$1.5 million contract from Mumbai Indians in the IPL during that competition.

"It's a different journey, there's no doubt about that which is really exciting,"

Bailey said.

"It's unique for a number of things. It's really challenging for players to just be a franchise cricketer without having a base or a support network. You might see it more and more, but there's some challenges being just a franchise cricketer as well."

He averages 32.48 with a 164.12 strike rate overall in T20 cricket. David has the greatest strike rate-164.56-among the 11 players, who have batted at least 20 times at No. 5 or lower in T20 since the beginning of 2021, easily surpassing Kieron Pollard, who is in second position.

Although his performance for Southern Brave in the Hundred has dipped a touch, after making an impression for Lancashire in the T20 Blast, it seemed all but certain that he would be selected for the World Cup team.

Meanwhile, due to the management of his workload, David Warner will miss the three T20Is in India. Cameron Green has been added to the team.

Australia will play West Indies (two matches) and England (three matches) back at home in early October after the matches in India between September 20 and 25 to begin their final lead-up to the World Cup, along with other pre-tournament warm-up games, before they begin against New Zealand at the SCG on October 22.
