Cricket News: Kapil Dev gives blunt statement on Dhoni's IPL retirement

MS Dhoni and the speculation around his IPL retirement seem to have no end in sight. Throughout the IPL 2023 there have been talks about his departure from the cash-rich competition.

However, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is yet to confirm the same, until than it all remain as rumours. The CSK captain and his team were all set to face the defending champions in the IPL 2023 finale on Sunday.

However, on May 28, heavy rain forced the game to be postponed till Monday, May 29.

During the rain delay on Sunday, India icon and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev offered his thoughts on Dhoni's possible IPL retirement.

During a rain break, Kapil spoke to ABP News and praised Dhoni for bringing the team to the finals of the 16th edition of the IPL. He also stated that the four-time IPL winner will not play his entire life.

"He has been playing IPL for 15 years. Why is it that we are only talking about Dhoni? He has done his work. What more do we want from him? Do we want him to play all his life? That is not going to happen. We should instead be thankful that he played for 15 years. Whether he plays next year or not, before departing he has played impressively. He may not have scored big runs but he led the team to the final and it shows what is the importance of a skipper in the game of cricket,"

said Kapil.

While the entire globe waited with bated breath for the action to begin on Sunday (May 28), rain played spoilsport and continued to pour down at the venue, preventing play from beginning.

The game has been moved to the reserve day, and if the rain does not allow it to be played again, Gujarat Titans will be declared champions of the 2023 edition by placing first in the IPL 2023 points table at the completion of the league stage.
