Green started playing on the powerplay as soon as the fresh ball landed onto the bat, slogging his way to a 19-ball fifty in the fifth over. Green frequently backed away with his outside leg and lustily swung at the ball, similar to Suryakumar. For Australia in T20Is, only David Warner and Glenn Maxwell have struck faster fifty.
Out of the 66 runs Australia scored during their powerplay, 52 came from Green. In the fourth over, he blasted Axar Patel for three straight fours, the best of which was a powerful, flat sweep to the midwicket boundary, further displaying his range against spin.
However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had given up 12 runs in his first over, came back to the fray in his subsequent over and hid one out of reach to bowl Green for 52 off 21 balls at backward point.
Axar got his arm ball fizzing against Maxwell and altered his tempo superbly to make it even more effective after being picked apart by Green. In his three powerplay overs, he had already bowled out Aaron Finch for 7, taking 1 for 31.
After that, Axar re-entered the fray with a double-wicket 14th over. Josh Inglis was catching a pass from him to backward point, and Matthew Wade was drawing a return pass for him. Wade, who is left-handed, was approached by Axar across the wicket, and he bowled him a shortish ball that caused him to spoon a punch back at him.
Axar completed the series with 8 for 63 in ten overs at a 6.30 economy rate. In the series, no other bowler took more than three wickets.
David's huge hitting was a significant part of how Australia went from 117 for 6 to 186 for 7 in the innings. David demonstrated in his debut international match for Australia why he is sought after in franchise T20 tournaments. David used strokes akin to those of Kieron Pollard to take 27 of his 54 runs down the ground despite India generally posting fielders at long-on and long-off. David bowled Bhuvneshwar for 6, 6, 4 as he narrowly missed his yorker in the 18th over. The most runs Jasprit Bumrah has given up in a T20I, he finished with 0 for 50, couldn't stop the damage.
Within four overs, India lost both of their openers, but Suryakumar and Kohli swiftly altered the tone and pace of the chase. When facing legspinner Adam Zampa, both hitters were proactive, utilising their feet to hit him against the anticipated turn for sixes.
If Zampa had managed to hold onto a challenging return catch, Kohli's innings might have ended at 23. Kohli was quickly passed by Suryakumar, who then sped to a 29-ball fifty. Off his next five balls, he blasted two sixes and a four, threatening to send India home quickly. However, Hazlewood and company put the brakes on and forced India to fight hard for victory.
Between overs 16 and 19, India only managed one four and one six, but Suryakumar's early onslaught made sure the chase was always in reach.
