Cricket News: Hosts England in commanding position in 3rd test

Rory Burns made 90 for England on day three of the third Test and final test at Old Trafford and then declared he would do everything to try and help Stuart Broad to become only the fourth seam bowler to take 500 Test wickets. Pacer Broad finished the third day of the decisive third Test in Manchester on 499 as England pushed for a series win over West Indies. Resuming at 137/6, West Indies saw overnight batters Holder and Shane Dowrich shared a 68-run stand for the seventh wicket to revive their flailing fortunes. But once Broad got into the act, there was no stopping the veteran pacer. Opener Rory Burns finished 10 runs short of his third Test century which led England captain Joe Root to declare on 226-2. England skipper Joe Root was 68 not out when he declared, amid concerns Monday's play could be washed out, to set the West Indies a huge target of 399. With visitors set 399 to win Broad struck twice more early in West Indies second innings leaving the tourists on 10-2 still 389 runs from their unlikely victory target.
